Bangor haulier hits the road again for 25 year milestone

One of North Wales’ most familiar names in haulage will be celebrating its quarter-century this month in the way they do best, by putting a new truck on the road.

Bangor-based Baynes & Son Haulage is adding a brand new lorry to its fleet and handing the keys over to its longest serving driver Gareth Owen, who has been with the family firm for 17 years.

The award-winning haulier, which was started by Michael Baynes in Gaerwen in 1989, has grown from a single van to a fleet that includes 16 trucks and four vans.

Today the company employs 26 people at its current site in Llandygai Industrial Estate, Bangor, offering general haulage, pallet deliveries (as part of the Palletforce Network), storage and parcels.

Lee Baynes said: “My father, Michael along with the help of my mother Pat, founded the company with a very strong focus on customer service. Our attitude and focus is to try to be as flexible as possible to our customers’ needs.”

That objective has served them well, leading to national, Palletforce awards for their quality of service in 2010 and 2013. The awards measure the effectiveness of each of the 100-plus Palletforce members, based on quality of service, including the number of deliveries made on time.

Lee is proud that Baynes & Son received such high recognition among some of Britain’s most elite hauliers. He explained that the location of the company has added emphasis its focus on service. “We’ve seen a number of large businesses fold in North West Wales and we know how important it is to look after your customers,” he said.

Business is looking strong after the economic downturn, which saw a number of hauliers suffer. Lee added: “The recession has been difficult for the industry, and the country as a whole. We are proud of the commitment of our long serving staff who have worked together to get us through this difficult time. We look forward to a bright future together.”
