Businesses needed to help police with fundraising heist

Businesses are being asked to play cops and robbers in a police chase with a difference.

Organised by Mold Police Station Sergeant Andy Massey, plans for a 7k run from the top of Moel Famau to Mold Police station are in full swing.

The run, in aid of Mold Community Hospital League of Friends will raise funds for a new X-Ray machine.

With Cytec and Hill & Roberts Chartered Accountants already signed up, the race is on to find more businesses and gather more sponsorship.

Sergeant Massey has brought together a team of almost 50 runners, from the area and has received support from local organisations through Business Supporting Communities (B2C) and Flintshire Local Voluntary Council (FLVC).

“This is a great opportunity for me and my police colleagues to support such a vital local service – Mold Community Hospital,” he said.

“Without the efforts of the League of Friends, the hospital has been in danger of closing, and I am grateful for the partnership support given by B2C and FLVC to help support this service for Mold and the surrounding area.”

Running from the peak of Moel Famau to the police station in Mold, a distance of approximately seven kilometers, Sergeant Massey is hoping to raise £7,000 in sponsorship.

B2C – a project funded by the Big Lottery and delivered by North Wales County Voluntary Councils, which works to help bring businesses and communities together – is working to bring more businesses on board.

B2C Wrexham and Flintshire project officer Alison Roberts said: “This is a great opportunity to support a local voluntary group to raise vital funds for Mold Hospital.

The hope is that, as well as each donation received, the event will bring together the local community and businesses to forge stronger links across the Mold area.”

Beryl Powell, chair of Mold Community Hospital League of Friends added: “I am delighted and grateful to Andy for this original way of fund raising. His target of £7000 which I am sure he will achieve will be a tremendous boost to our funds.”
