A family run business says it has ‘more confidence’ since becoming a registered installer with a building products manufacturer.
The scheme run by leading PVC-U and PVC-UE building products manufacturer Kestrel; has helped Stoke on Trent based PVCU World Roofline Specialists stand out against its competitors.
“Being a kestrel registered installer gives me that extra back up and confidence you need when sat down in front of a customer, all the product brochures and literature come in really handy, plus I can offer them a 35 year guarantee,” said Richard Clowes, owner of PVCU World Roofline Specialists.
“We use are Fascia soffit guttering, eaves protector over fascia ventilation and all the accompanying corners and joints,” said Richard.
“The product is first class and the breadth of the range is fantastic.
“Our aim is to be fully dedicated to the service we provide to our customers – with the helping hand of kestrel,” he added.
Since 2011 Kestrel has been working with its installers to achieve NVQ level training.
Once completed, businesses are then awarded the Kestrel Q Card which can be presented to customers, showing their name, qualifications and photograph.
The qualification, accredited by the GQA and delivered by Neil Whitfield Training (NWT), is valued at £1,500 per person but is free for Kestrel registered installers.
There are five levels of NVQ, ranging from Level 1 –the equivalent of one GCSE (grade D-G); Level 2 – one GCSE (A*- C) and Level 3 (1-5 A Levels at A*- C).
And now, with the government’s commitment to the Green Deal, Kestrel is aiming to deliver a full 12 month apprenticeship NVQ to installers.
The move follows the announcement that in order to apply for Green Deal accreditation, installation companies will have to make sure that their installers have the relevant qualifications.
Neil Whitfield revealed, putting installers through the apprenticeship NVQ could, not only be free of charge but also result in the company receiving grant funding once the qualification is completed.
Neil explained: “The Green Deal is the buzz term within the industry and for good reason. The government has committed to spend £1.6billion each year over the next ten years to help people improve the energy efficiency of their home.
“To become a Green Deal provider you will need to make sure that your installers are properly qualified. For those installation companies that Kestrel supply, this is a fantastic opportunity to make those developments within their company that they need for Green Deal accreditation.”
Neil added that, while the qualification takes 12 months to complete, it needn’t interfere with the working day as assessment is carried out on site.
