Masterclass for North Wales voluntary groups

A leading North Wales company is sharing its insights with community groups keen to get business backing.

With grants and many income streams drying up, Business Supporting Communities (B2C), a project funded by the Big Lottery and delivered by North Wales County Voluntary Councils, is holding the masterclass later this month.

Gaerwen based Peninsula Home Improvements is taking part in the masterclass entitled ‘Approaching Business’.

Edwyn Thomas, B2C’s project officer for Anglesey and Gwynedd said: “Due to many changes within funding, community groups are having to find alternative measures in seeking help.

“This includes approaching local businesses and business people, which can be a daunting task.

“This masterclass will also give an insight into how businesses think, putting the groups in the businesses shoes. We will also be looking at applications and how to make their case more favourable.”

Husband and wife team and owners of Peninsula Home Improvements Ken and Lorraine Grayson, support many community based activities as part of their business strategy.

Recent examples of their generosity include sponsorship for talented young musicians via the William Mathias Centre, donating and installing new windows at the UK’s first Women’s Institute building in Llanfair PG and providing supporting various charity events.

Ken said: “We are hoping that fellow business people in North Wales can see the value and reward in doing the same and realise that incorporating corporate social responsibility into your business model is a great idea on so many levels.”

The masterclass will be held for community and voluntary groups on January 28 at the Thomas Telford Heritage Centre, Menai Bridge.

The event, from 10am – 1pm, will inform groups on how to approach and seek support from local businesses.
