Budding Ruthin artists spread festive cheer

A RuthinOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA will be starting the spring term with new sports equipment after two talented artists at the school won a Christmas card competition.

Hannah Roberts who designed a ginger bread man card, and Olivia Bartley, who designed a Christmas Eve scene – both from Ysgol Rhewl – were ‘thrilled’ to have been chosen, scooping £150 for their school.

The competition by Denbigh- based Artisan Windows, Doors and Conservatories, asked schools, community groups and the general public to get involved to design its Christmas card.

Three designs were selected in all, with eight year-old Caitlin Boothroyd’s painting of a Robin from, also winning £150 for her school in Heswall.

“I kept thinking it wouldn’t be me and I guess it was my lucky day,” said Olivia.

Hannah added: “I can’t believe I won, I brought Pudsey into school and found out that I had won, so now Pudsey Bear is my lucky teddy.”

Ian Gibson from Artisan said: “We send out charity cards every Christmas, but this year decided to give that money to community groups.

“We must thank everyone who sent their pictures in because it was a very tough choice to make.

“Our congratulations and thanks to Caitlin, Hannah and Olivia for their superb designs.

“We are looking forward to seeing the designs in print and sending them out.”
