Abakhan opens in Altrincham

Leading fabric, yarn and crafting retailer Abakhan is set to open its latest UK store in Altrincham, near Manchester this month (June).

The two-storey shop will include a range of crochet yarns and accessories, alongside dressmaking, soft furnishing and quilting fabrics, including the end of line and remnants that the store has become famous for stocking.

Upstairs there will be a whole floor dedicated to workshops, and Abakhan is putting the finishing touches to a series of half-day ‘taster’ classes that will run throughout the summer months.

Marketing director Beth Abakhan said: “We have a very busy programme of craft, sewing, crochet and knitting workshops in our North Wales and Liverpool stores, which are really popular, so we wanted to bring that to the Manchester area.

“We have spent a long time looking for the perfect site for the new store, and Altrincham stood out as it has a really vibrant High Street that has seen a lot of development in recent years.

“There’s already a real buzz around the opening of this store, we couldn’t be more excited!”

The three-day opening weekend will see demonstrations from some familiar faces, including Great British Sewing Bee favourites Paul Clarke and Jennifer Taylor.

Demonstrations are set to include dressmaking and fabric embellishments, younger crafters can also get involved in some ‘make and take’ sessions.

This will be the ninth UK store for Abakhan, which already has shops in Mostyn, North Wales, Liverpool, Manchester, Birkenhead, Chester, Hanley, Preston and Bolton.

The firm also has an online store, which includes 15,000 different products.
