Expert advice for local community groups in 2013

VOLUNTEER groups in Gwynedd and Anglesey will be able to get expert advice and learn new skills in the New Year thanks to a series of workshops organised by Business Supporting Communities (B2C) which is funded by the Big Lottery.

As part of its Professionals initiative the B2C project, set up by North Wales six County Voluntary Councils, has arranged for a number of experts in various fields to speak to volunteers on their specialist subjects.

These include: a masterclass on working with architects; advice surgeries on accountancy matters; a master class on the role of trustees; and another on how to approach businesses for help.

There will also be First Aid sessions for volunteers and networking evenings – providing community groups with a chance to present opportunities to businesses also a chance for informal networking for all sectors.

The classes, which begin in February, are open to any community or volunteer groups in the region, but places are limited so booking is essential.

B2C Project Officer Emily Williamson explains: “At Medwrn Mon & Mantell Gwynedd our aim is to forge strong, lasting relationships between businesses and third sector groups in the communities that they serve.

“The B2C Professionals initiative is one of the ways that we are looking to achieve this aim. Experts in a range of fields, from legal matters to accountancy, to first aid, have volunteered their own time to share their knowledge and expertise.

“It’s a great opportunity for voluntary and community groups to learn more about the matters that affect their organisation and for individuals to learn valuable new skills.

“As well as this, networking events as well as the workshops themselves, give business people and community groups a chance to get to know each other and to see what each other has to offer.

“Forging closer links between businesses and their communities can have huge benefits for both parties.”

B2C is a Big Lottery funded project covering the whole of North Wales, ran by Medwrn Mon and Mantell Gwynedd, the County Voluntary Councils for Anglesey and Gwynedd.

B2C Professionals is one of a number of initiatives designed to build relationships between businesses and their communities.
