Give something back to your community this Christmas Wednesday, November 28, 2012

THE festive season is a time of giving and receiving and, with this in mind, North Wales-based B2C is encouraging businesses to offer their unwanted equipment to community groups who could make use of it.

Business Supporting Communities (B2C) is a Big Lottery funded project which aims to forge links between businesses in the region and the communities they serve.

Most businesses, large or small, will have items that are gathering dust which could be put to good use by a community group or voluntary organisation.

Their B2C Give initiative is an online channel allowing businesses to donate those items directly to local community groups to reuse or recycle.

Companies can also use B2C Share, an online facility allowing businesses to share resources and facilities, such as offices space or meeting rooms, with local community groups.

B2C Project Manager, Sarah Thomas explains: “Christmas is traditionally a time for giving and New Year is a time when many people have a clear-out of unwanted items.

“We are asking businesses across North Wales to take this opportunity to have a look around to see what items they no longer need or use and to offer those items to community groups who could put them to good use.

“Likewise, if a business has a facility, such as meeting rooms, which could be used by groups their local community, even for an hour a week.

“It’s so easy to upload details of what you have to offer onto our website market place and, by doing so, you could be really making a difference.”

B2C Give is an online marketplace, where businesses can offer up equipment or waste materials that are not needed anymore and can be re-used, increasing their storage capacity and save on disposal fees.

Community groups can also request equipment or other resources.

The B2C team can then share the ‘want’ list to businesses that may be able to provide much sought after goods.

Delivery and collection are arranged directly between the donor and recipient and goods and services are taken on a first come first served basis.

Similarly, B2C Share is an online marketplace where businesses can share resources, equipment or facilities.

This could lead to new networking opportunities or even a new customer base.

Community groups can also advertise sharing opportunities they are looking for in their local area.
