St Brigid’s School pupil Olivia Kinney is looking forward to a Diamond Jubilee year to remember having been named Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet 2012 for Clwyd.
The role, which covers the counties of Flintshire, Denbighshire, Wrexham and Conwy, will see Olivia assist the Lord Lieutenant in his royal duties.
Contingent Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Jim Wood, who put the year 11 pupil forward for the honour, said: “Olivia has boundless enthusiasm, showing the best of today’s young people, and is a credit to both the Combined Cadet Force and St Brigid’s School.”
Cadet Sergeant Olivia received her Certificate and Badge of Office in the Gallery Rooms at Bodelwyddan Castle earlier this month, where the Lord Lieutenant praised her and others for their ‘can-do attitude’.
As a further honour the Holywell teenager is one of 12 UK cadets selected to take part in a six-week Canadian exchange programme. Olivia will visit the Yukon Territory where she will learn bush craft and take a four-day canoe expedition into the Canadian wilderness.
Olivia said: “ I am really excited about working with the Lord Lieutenant especially as this year is the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. I am very grateful to all the opportunities that the Combined Cadet Force has given me and I cannot wait to visit Canada this summer.”
This is the second time in three years a member of St Brigid’s School Combined Cadet Force has been awarded the badge of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet. In 2010 Glesni Hitchens also achieved the honour.
