V2 spotlights home-grown Welsh talent

North Wales nightclub V2 is looking for the best of Welsh talent as it opens its doors this month for a battle of the bands contest with a difference.

The Ruthin club is hoping to find a new house singer or band through the contest, and to ensure they get the right one, the winner will be voted for entirely by its customers.

Club manager Peter Locke said: “We are looking for a singer or band that really has the wow factor. We are a bilingual venue and so are keen to hear from bands who sing in Welsh as well as English.”

The V2 Battle of the Bands contest will start on Friday 30th September, with eight bands vying for a cash prize of £500 and the opportunity to be the club’s house band. Further heats will take place on the last Friday of each consecutive month, with the grand final taking place on 30th December.

V2, which saw capacity nights on the evening of the Gwyl Festival in Ruthin and the Denbigh and Flint Show, has now been granted a 2pm licence after a change in management and doorstaff.

Owned by Birch House Business Centre, V2 has also undergone a £70,000 refurbishment, including a state of the art Vista ID security system that ensures all club-goers are over 18-years-old.

Employing 25 local staff, including door manager former World Kickboxing Champion Russ Williams, the club currently opens on a Saturday night, with a regular shuttle bus from the town centre. It is available for private events on other nights of the week, free of charge for people living in and around Ruthin.

Peter said: “As a club we have worked closely with the police and licensing, introducing new sound-proofing, CCTV, shuttle buses and sophisticated security systems to ensure that there is as little disruption to local residents as possible. By offering free venue hire to those living in and around the area, we hope to encourage as many people as possible to see for themselves the changes we have made at the club.”

Bands and singers wanting to take part in the V2 battle of the bands, are invited to share You Tube videos before the kick off event on 30th September, on the club’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/V2Ruthin. Performers can also register their interest by contacting Peter on info@v2nightclub.com or 07879 285449.
