A small family-run Denbighshire business has scored a retail coup by becoming the first store in the UK to stock an exclusive range of designer Welsh slate tableware.
The tableware, hewn in Bethesda and designed to the exacting standards of celebrity chef Michael Caines, is now on sale at I’r Dim/ Just Right in Denbigh and through the company’s online shop.
Owner Huw Hilditch-Roberts, who runs the shop with wife Ffion, said: “We are hugely excited to be able to stock Slateware by Michael Caines. The material itself is iconic for North Wales and the design is strikingly contemporary. The best part is that the plates are also very practical. As slate in non-porous, food can be served directly off the plates, which are also dishwasher proof.
“I imagine Slateware will be appearing on a lot of our wedding lists this summer!”
Slateware by Michael Caines is just one of a number of new lines added to I’r Dim/ Just Right’s stock. The shop based on Vale Street in Denbigh has gone through a subtle reinvention after coming into Huw and Ffion’s ownership late last year and plans are in place to open a second branch this summer.
Huw said: “I’r Dim has always had the most amazing selection of gifts and collectibles and a great customer-base. Having been based in London for work, I wanted to bring some of the exclusive brands I saw there back home to North Wales.
“By stocking products Gisela Graham, Orla Kiely and Joseph Joseph alongside existing ranges such as Moorcroft Pottery and Le Creuset cookware, we aim to offer the variety of quality brands normally reserved to large cities.”
Response to the new brands has been so positive that I’r Dim/ Just Right is set to expand into Ruthin, with a new shop in Clwyd Street planned to open in July. It will see the number of staff employed by the business increase to seven across both branches, from just two staff when the Hiditch-Roberts’ took over.
Huw is also taking that variety to a much wider audience, through I’r Dim online. Within the first fortnight the website, launched this spring, took orders from the USA, Canada and Mexico.
